Senior fall prevention

Senior fall prevention. Having a fall can happen to anyone! However, as you get older your risk of falls increases.

Falls can become recurrent later in life, which may result in injuries, low confidence and a poor quality of life.

Falls can occur as a result of:

  • Poor Balance
  • Muscle Weakness
  • Previous Injuries
  • Visual Impairment
  • Side Effects to Medication
  • Long-term Health Conditions

How You Can Take Action!

  1. Increase your activity levels
  2. Seek advice from a physiotherapist to improve your balance and strength
  3. Make your home safer
  4. Wear appropriate, supportive footwear

Physical Activity

Regular exercise each day can significantly reduce your risk of falls – this could involve some mobility exercises to loosen up in the morning, outdoor walking or specialised exercise

programmes at a local gym or fitness centre.

Weight-bearing exercises that involve you supporting your weight through your feet, legs or arms cain help you to maintain strong and healthy bones.
